Supporting Care Leavers
“ On average, young people stay living at home until their mid to late twenties. In the UK, we usually expect care leavers, our most vulnerable and highest need group to live independently from 16.”
At Bryn Melyn Care we support the growth and development of some of the most vulnerable young people in the country as they make the transition into adulthood. We are heavily involved in planning and supporting young people as they take on their first tenancies and move out of the care system. This is often a very anxious time and it is important that there are mechanisms in place to allow inevitable mistakes and the opportunity for learning through experience.
As an organisation, we recognize that care leavers do not always have access to the support and services that they need. This is why, several years ago, we established the Bryn Melyn Group Foundation, an independent charity designed specifically to raise awareness about these issues across the political and social care spectrum and also to raise funds to be able to offer practical financial support.
The charity is completely separate and independent from Bryn Melyn Care residential, educational and clinical services although we still support the work through fundraising, donation and promotion activity.
In 2008, to support its ongoing mission, the charity was renamed as The Care Leavers Foundation and we would encourage you to follow the link to learn more about (and support) the important work that they do.
Thank you in anticipation of your support.
