A young person from one of our homes had the experience of a lifetime recently when he met his idols at a charity football match!
As part of a referral to “Make-A-Wish”, John, a Deputy Care Manager organised a fantastic day for the young person where he got to meet his favourite celebrities from Hollyoaks. “Make-A-Wish” aims to provide young people with opportunities which they, and in fact most people, would never usually have the chance to experience.
Through John’s contacts and experience of working in the close protection service, he was able to arrange for the young person to have the opportunity to meet the entire cast of Hollyoaks at a football match. The purpose of the charity football match was to raise money for “Offside Trust”, an organisation who support young people who have suffered abuse in sport; so there was also a very good message attached to the day’s experience too!
The young person spent the day watching the football match, speaking to members of the cast and having lots of photos taken with them. He even got some exclusives on new storylines for the show and was generally made a fuss of by people he idolises. One of his highlights of the day was when he had the opportunity to go onto the football pitch himself to take a penalty against a celebrity… which he scored!
Following the day’s events, John said the young person “is one very happy boy tonight and is overwhelmed at what he has done all afternoon. It’s days like today that you see the little boy inside him and just how amazing he can be”.
As this young person’s dream for the future is to become an actor, John is planning his next surprise which we are told will involve even bigger celebrities. We’re looking forward to hearing all about this in the coming months.
