Congratulations to Josh Millard, HR Officer with Bryn Melyn Care who attended his graduation ceremony on Friday 10th November to receive his certificate in Human Resources Management from Walsall College.
Young people and their progress are central to the work that we do and the focus of all parts of our business, encouraging aspiration and achievement in our young people, especially with their educational outcomes. To succeed in our ambitions for young people, we need robust and stable staff teams and responsive support services around them. We are only as good as the people on our teams and part of our success depends on a knowledgeable, organised and ethical HR team. This varied people focussed department is what attracted Josh to the HR profession and has driven him on to obtain his qualification.
The aspirations of our workforce are no less important in the crucial role they play in their different ways, supporting our young people and acting as role models to them. By investing in staff as they develop as professionals, not only with their statutory qualifications but also beyond, we are able to promote and progress individual careers. For instance, care practitioners have the opportunity to take a foundation degree in therapeutic care and the opportunity to join a bespoke management development programme. Bryn Melyn Care offers the development programme to members of staff that demonstrate potential and the ambition to be care managers.
Reflection, supervision and supporting one another are vital components of the support we are able to give to our young people and to one another. Central to this is the HR department in recruiting, nurturing and retaining a robust staff for the rewarding, but challenging work we do. Josh comments, “Two years ago I was stuck in a job that I hated. I made the decision to accept a redundancy and start over. I had spent some time with HR during the redundancy process and quickly realised that their role was very attractive to me. I did some research into what I needed to do to pursue a career in HR and signed myself up.”
Josh applied and was successful in his application to join BMC and is now approaching his second anniversary. Josh goes on to say, “I am gaining valuable knowledge and skills every day and looking forward to the future.”
Sherrie Bloomer, HR Manager who joined Bryn Melyn Care in August this year commented, “Josh is a loyal and hardworking member of our team and we offer him our sincerest congratulations on his achievement”. Sherrie went on to say, “Josh demonstrates the qualities needed in an HR role. He is an excellent communicator, organised, ethical and developing his expert knowledge.”
