Our unique therapy programmes are integral to the success of our work. We don’t believe in a one size fits all approach, and employ a wide range of therapeutic professionals to provide our young people with the intensive Quality of Life Plans they need to develop and grow.

How therapy works at Bryn Melyn Care

Most of our young people have been exposed to situations that have led them to rely on difficult and challenging behaviour simply in order to survive.

Clinicians offer weekly team consultation to care staff. We believe that it is through relationships with therapeutic carers that change happens.

In many cases young people also require direct therapy with an experienced member of the clinical team. If and when appropriate young people usually attend one clinical session a week, during which our therapists work with them to help resolve past traumas and understand how these experiences have influenced who they are today.

They also work with care teams and the young person to monitor and reduce the level of harm young people cause to themselves and others and help them build positive strategies for managing and enjoying their lives.

Contact our Clinical Lead on 01952 504 715 to talk about your young person’s therapeutic treatment needs.

We provide a range of psychological therapies including:

  • Cognitive behavioural therapy
  • Person-centred and integrative counselling
  • EMDR/trauma focussed therapies
  • Psychodynamic and interpersonal therapy
  • DBT informed therapies

Enhanced specialist interventions might include:

  • Additional specialist psychological assessment
  • Individual therapy sessions
  • Engagement visits
  • Joint working and liaison with local Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
  • Enhanced risk assessment and management plans
  • Delivering specialist training

The clinician will attend weekly consultation meetings with the care team to provide consultation and clinical input into the day-to-day care and planning around the Quality of Life Plan.
